Field eXpedients: Desert Camo Tape Silencing 30-Round Mags

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Perhaps your chain-of-command will not tolerate you painting your 30-round M16/M4 magazines TAN for proper desert camouflage?

You are not sunk. You can use McNett Camo Form tape

(click on government/tactical on left edge of home page)

to not only camouflage them but SILENCE their possible metal-on-rock sounds when moving dismounted.

First, place the 30-round magazine into your M16/M4 assault rifle/carbine’s well and mark with a pen, the line of the well’s lip on your magazine. Remove the magazine and begin wrapping McNett Camo Form around the magazine OVER THAT LINE with the top edge of your tape. You DO NOT want ANY McNett tape in between the magazine and the M16/M4 well. If you are in a desert environment, USE THE OPPOSITE SIDE of ACUPAT pattern camouflage McNett tape to wrap your magazines; the cling feature of the tape works in either directions. Cut a small piece of McNett Camo Form tape for the bottom of the magazine and cut a slot for the gutted 550 cord pull-carry loop.
